Springing Into Spring + Time to get Planting! Garden Hose #Giveaway / #TheHoppingBloggers

Hello there! Hope everyone is well & happy today! I can’t tell you how much I love this time of year. Spring has finally arrived so it’s time to start planting your flower gardens and vegetables and such! We are still very new to gardening and learning. Last year we tried a small attempt at trying to grow my own vegetables and also plant several flowers but that quickly went bad. First let me explain, my husband doesn’t believe we can plant in our yard, parts are rocky and we do not have much level ground as we live up a mountain. We have purchased more property next to us that is a little more level further down so I am hoping next year we can try an actual big garden. In the mean time, we are using buckets which I have learned is quite popular.

Last year I only planted two tomato plants to start with and did not realize the importance of having them braced with the cages, etc. I had a few nice looking tomatoes then as they grew bigger the vines broke and they never really recovered. I had a flimsy little thing in the buckets but that was of no use, the plant overpowered the thing. My flowers last year died within 2 weeks of planting. I did not read the tag and just thought all flowers want sunlight and I was wrong! This year we are better prepared! We have planted tomatoes and cucumbers and are putting the cages up tonight on the tomatoes. I also researched sun loving flowers as where I am placing them is mostly in the sun so I am very excited this year and we are going to be getting chickens soon! I can’t wait!

  1. My best advice is to be aware your chickens are going to be your gardens enemy. One year I planted 50 sunflower seeds and 50 strawberry plants and our chickens got most of the seeds and plants. Chicken tractors or fencing is the way to go. There is nothing like fresh eggs from your own chickens though.
